What you need to know

:star: ABOUT :star:
A group focused on artworks created based on stylization, simplified or exaggerated forms with an animal thematic.

:star: Rules :star:

:bulletblue: There is no limit for deviations submitted yet, as the group is still growing. Feel free to upload as much you want for now.

:bulletblue: We look for a certain level of quality on the submissions so not every work may be accepted. Don’t feel bad if your works don’t get approved right away. One of the purposes of keeping the group somewhat restricted is to inspire people to improve their artwork.

:bulletblue:Our approval system is based on votes coming from the staff, which were individually selected based on their knowledge on the subject.

:bulletblue:The works uploaded here do not necessarily need to be full of details or have backgrounds, but it does need to have some sort of effort put into them –mainly on the design, stylization, shapes and such . It must be a finished piece however.

:bulletblue: Your submission will be judged based on originality, drawing, appeal and etc.

:bulletblue: We normally don't accept Fanart.

:bulletblue:Copied and stolen work will obviously not be accepted.

:bulletblue:Submissions MUST go to the appropriate folder, so pay ATTENTION to those. We may re-locate it to you, but if you pick a moderator that is not feeling like doing so, it may also be rejected.

:bulletblue:Submissions must not contain explicit content, such as pornography.

:bulletblue: Anyone can join the group, even if you do not create stylized work that often.

:bulletblue:Try to submit only your best works. We discourage generic designs, as we’re looking to build a rich gallery.

Hi, I think I accidentally submitted a kitty into the bird folder because it was next to the bird drawing I was meant to submit in my own gallery. Sorry about that!

Why was my submission declined?

Hi! Thanks for writing! We have multiple people voting on images. Hopefully the other admin/s will chime in with their reasoning as well.

I'll start with the good stuff. For me, this was a tough one. I like the style a lot. The tongue and the hair curls are reminiscent of heraldic animals, which I have been exploring in my own are lately.  The lines and shapes are clean and the image reads well as a logo or graphic art.

Now, as you can imagine, we get a lot of canine submissions. As a judge, I like to see full body, dynamic poses, a background, and innovations in style and medium. Those aren't critical, but it's what I think qualifies for exceptional art for this group...

With all of that aside, there are two main issues I saw in this image. The first being the overly distracting watermarks. One is bad enough, but three goes beyond excessive and tasteless. There are better, less distracting ways to mark your work. You want your work to be the focus, not your name. I am in the school of thought that your work should BE your signature. If it doesn't stand apart from other artists' work, then perhaps it's not that unique.  Also, it would probably take anyone with any Photoshop experience less than 10 minutes to cover these up.

My second thought about this image, is that it's difficult to tell what kind of animal it is. I know it's a fox because you tell me in the title. If it didn't, I would guess it was a sort of chimera dog-cat creature; Something that is popular on DA, but not suited for our "real" animal-specific group. The only feature this has that says "fox" is the coloring and markings. I think you can push fox-specific features a lot more in this. You've got the right start with the pointy ears, but the shape is wrong. The same could go for the muzzle and slope of forehead.

I realize it could be argued that this is "stylized", but there's a skill to being able to stylize something while still keeping its key features.
